No draft picks and Burke bails while the getting is good. Future looks bright in Calgary.

Argh! couldnt Burkie wait another month or so....maybe Leafs could have tempted him and Flames mgmt to swap Hamilton for Gardiner + a draft pick. Burke like's re-acquiring guys he traded or signed for before. Oh well....

Since the Flames have a plethora of mediocre forward prospects and above average defensive prospects, maybe they should consider trading Andersson. Who are the forward prospects out there that are ready for the NHL, but can't find a spot on their current team?

That person that taught you the entire world was Christian and celebrated the same beliefs as you, wasn't being completely truthful with you.

@hunk

Kapanen comes to mind. Not sure I would do that though. Would rather see if we can upsell Brodie at the draft to a GM on a deadline.

Christian Fischer would be a good add. Burgeoning power forward RW that Treliving is certainly aware of from the Coyotes system.

Tom Wilson might be hard to sign and the caps need NHL ready talent at low cost.

JT miller would be neat but he's a lefty.

The last three listed are all RFAs.

We need to retain our low cost, NHL ready talent.

Ideally, they'd be trading him for another low cost, NHL ready talent.

Ideally we’d be trading higher priced ‘proven player’ vets for low cost NHL ready talent. Believe it or not, teams still want those players to help a younger core along.

UFA Versteeg? Brouwer? Who you refering to?

Stone will have a bit of value, but it's bad policy to trade a player one year removed from signing a contract as a UFA.

Trading away all your early round picks is classic Burke. Painfully watched it for years. If he stayed around you may have collected a few 7th round "Burkie specials" to make up for it.

Burke wasn't the GM, and the Flames are in great shape right now.

Crazy possibility or win-win for both teams?

Pat Hickey writing in the Montreal Gazette says the Habs should trade their pick for a centre.

http://montrealgazette.co...ld-trade-first-round-pick

Hickey has been covering the Habs since forever and knows his stuff.

I realize that virtually everyone thinks getting Tkachuk is a crazy hallucination but... who got the Sedins to Vancouver and how convoluted was that deal?

Talk about generational players all you want but they're pretty common compared to a top 6 sibling combo. Kent Wilson wrote a great piece in the Athletic yesterday about MT being arguably the best player on the team. Add his brother and how good would MT be then?

Could the Flames do a deal like this? Imo, if they wanted to, absolutely.
Of course, it probably won't happen because too many things have to fall into place.

But I can't help imagining what the Flames would be like to play against if it did happen.
